What's up in September?

Story:
I started this painting immediately after the events of September
11, 2001. I intended
to express my solidarity with New York and my hope that the catastrophe
can lead to the resolution of seemingly intractable global problems
-- may it spell a new dawn on our horizon. May we look beyond
the focus of Ground Zero as the pinpoint of a crisis to which we
were awakened only on September 11, and question ours values and
position regarding the world which is around us. As dramatically
as Adam and Eve lost their innocence in The Garden, maybe we of
the fortunate Northwest, will ultimately gain access to a more profound
intelligence and wisdom after this bitter bite. Instead of
running out of the garden to seek cover for our nakedness, let us
take care of business, seriously. |
