Cigars ; the secret of the Monte Cristo

THE SECRET OF MONTE-CRISTO

Painted February 1998 in Miami

Acrylic on canvas 11" x 14" (36 x 28 cm)
Governor installation, Moscow, July '98

Story:

The maker of this Cuban cigar picked up the name from the Alexandre Dumas's celebrated novel.  I am revealing the secret that kept the count of Monte-Cristo in jail. To be honest with you, the essence of this painting was escaping me until Jacques Olivier, my friend who is an erudite in matters of French literature, enlightened me.  Amazing how the mind works?
