Painted 1993
in Miami Beach
Acrylic

Commissioned
piece by Ms. and Mr. Pickens, Pennsylvania, 1993
Story:
In
he '80's, many classifieds which offered newly refurbished
Art Deco apartments in South Beach rarely omitted
to mention, in bold font, HARD WOOD FLOOR. It Seems as though
that was the hot thing to have here, termites and
noisy upstairs neighbors no less!
In 1988, I painted
my first picture ever, for a French women, Michelle
Saunders, who commissioned me a scene of Art Deco
Buildings irrupting joyfully in her bright yellow
colored SoBe apartment. (see; 345Ocean). The Pickens,
who honeymooned in South Beach a few years back,
commissioned me to create a similar painting. They
selected some buildings they loved, but left me
to create a piece of my own composition. I painted
a scene that conveys the feelings that we might
have after making love in a balmy South Beach Art
Deco hotel room.
Interestingly, a few of the buildings
are already been razed. The Anchor Hotel is now
a parking lot for the Loews Hotel. The Revere
was demolished by Gianni Versace to make room for
his private swimming pool...
This
image preludes other pieces where I've used the
ceilings fans theme Having Fan at
the Beach. A few years later, the melting wood
floor led me to paint the series of "Salvador
Doilies".
