I love this piece of work. honestly I feel It Is a surrealist work but It could also be expressed as an IllustratIve surrealist piece. I also do a lot of "heart paintings" I felt the same way but the shape has been an obsession since before I can remember. I'm glad I found this site and I'm not so afraid that my piece will be viewed as "corny".
thanks
Angie

An Odd Looking Realistic painting is not necessarily surrealist

This artwork is both illustrative and surreal. Surreal because of how you chose to depict your feelings through art and illustrative b/c it expresses your personal feelings at that point in time. It appears that the relationship was cut short before it even had a chance to grow? .

 Pierre:

Thank you for your excellent question:
There is a difference between looking at the appearance of a painting and reading it .
As you pointed justly, surrealism is not a style, it was a subversive and wonderful art movement that has its place in the art history, around the ideas of Andre Breton.

I admit that I am seduced by the visual appearance of the surrealist art work, however I am not at all in the historical context.

Like Magritte warned that his pipe was not a pipe, I should affix to my work the warning label: "this is not surrealist painting"
To illustrate my letter, see various pieces where indeed I asked myself the question.

illustrative or surrealist? The hearts: series painted according to my own hearts-stories.
