June 01, 2003.  Poppies study

Field- poppies study
Pierre Marcel, June 2003, Saint Clair Sur Epte, France.
Acrylic on canvas 32 x 39 inches (91 x 100 cm )

Notes :
In May I was all out with dandelions, while checking with some anxiety the apparition of field poppies along the green wheat fields. I got words they were blossoming near Paris, at 40 miles from here, and it is only at the month's end that some popped out near my studio.
The study presented here was started in May, and completed this day, June first. It is for me a study, I experimented various shades of acrylic red, while doing other experiments that will be featured the coming days.

Visitor's comments:

Scientific Classification. The poppy family is Papaveraceae. The opium poppy is Papaver somniferum; the corn poppy, P. rhoeas; the Iceland poppy, P. nudicaule; the Oriental poppy, P. orientale. The California poppy is Eschscholtzia californica.
Which poppy is it? is it the Field poppy?

Pierre Marcel Classification:. If there could only be one image that I' ll be cherishing in another planet or life, it would be the dance of a bunch of poppies along a wheat field in a summer breeze. There is nothing as precious, precisely due to the fragile splendor of this otherwise hardy, humble weed.  ( extract from my July 2001 newsletter)
